Iranian Geophysical Society

The Geophysics Society of Iran was established on January 31, 1976 under the name of the National Society of Geophysics of Iran as a result of the efforts of Dr. Hossein Keshi Afshar, Dr. Hossein Zomorrodian, Dr. Khosrow Moazzami Goodarzi, Mr. Ali Akbar Moeenfar, Dr. Manouchehr Sadat Akhavi, Mr. Amir Hossein Mousavi, and Dr. Fariborz Jahanbakhsh. The award of its official status was recorded in a newsletter on October 24, 1976 with registration number 9270, and the Society initiated its activities.

After the victory of the Islamic Revolution and the inauguration of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Society submitted its articles of association and a draft of its charter to the general assembly meeting of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology on September 22, 1994. The Society completed its reapplication for official registration to the Office of International Scientific Cooperation at the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology on October 16, 1994.

Following the 18th meeting of the Scientific Associations Committee of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, the Ministry issued authorization for the Society to become active under the name of the Society of Geophysics of Iran.

Upon receiving that authorization (2001-2002) and with the election of the first Board of Directors, the Society began its endeavors anew.
